This retake course is for students who previously completed Nurse Delegation: Focus on Diabetes but did not pass the competency exam. Students will review the same content and complete the full course again, gaining two additional attempts to pass the exam. This refresher reinforces essential knowledge about diabetes, insulin, blood sugar monitoring, and safe insulin administration under nurse delegation.

 

Learning Objectives:

  1. Define key terms related to diabetes.

  2. Describe the structure and function of the endocrine system as it relates to diabetes.

  3. Differentiate the types of diabetes.

  4. Identify the signs, symptoms, and treatments for hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia.

  5. Identify their role in helping clients manage diabetes safely.

  6. Describe insulin basics, including insulin types and non-insulin injectable medications.

  7. Apply rules for insulin storage and safe handling.

  8. Explain insulin dosing methods, including fixed dose, sliding scale, carb ratio, and correction factor.

  9. Identify common methods of insulin delivery, including vials/syringes, pens, pumps, and inhaled insulin.

  10. Demonstrate knowledge of safe needle disposal.

  11. Describe proper injection sites and site rotation.

  12. Apply the Five Rights of Medication Administration related to insulin.

  13. Follow correct steps for insulin administration using syringes or pens.

  14. Recognize factors that affect insulin absorption.

  15. Implement general safety measures for insulin and injection equipment.
