This retake course is for students who previously completed the Nurse Delegation Core training but did not pass the competency exam. Students will complete the full class again and receive an additional attempt to pass the exam.
The course reviews the fundamentals of Washington State Nurse Delegation, including the legal requirements, the delegation process, caregiver responsibilities, medication administration basics, and common delegated treatments.
The retake session reinforces the knowledge and skills needed to safely accept and perform nurse-delegated tasks in community and home settings.
Learning Objectives:
Define nurse delegation and explain its purpose.
Identify where delegation can occur under Washington State law.
List tasks that cannot be delegated to a caregiver.
Describe the qualifications required to accept a delegated task.
Explain the roles and responsibilities of the delegating RN, the client, and the caregiver.
Describe caregiver rights and responsibilities in the delegation process.
Understand the communication process and when to notify the RN or supervisor.
Describe typical client profiles and how they relate to delegated tasks.
Identify major body systems and recognize common age-related changes and diseases.
Understand how body system changes impact client care and task safety.
Demonstrate knowledge of medication fundamentals and routes of administration.
Apply the Five Rights of Medication Administration.
Follow the correct steps for assisting with and administering medications.
Identify and respond appropriately to medication errors, refusals, or unexpected situations.
Perform common nurse-delegated treatments
Recognize complications that may result from medications, procedures, or disease processes.
Report changes in condition promptly to the delegating RN, case manager, or supervisor.
