Learners gain foundational knowledge of nurse delegation, caregiver responsibilities, medication assistance, and diabetes-specific care needed to perform delegated tasks safely in home and community settings. Together, these courses also fulfill the population specific training required for the 75-hour Home Care Aide certification.
Nurse Delegation Core (9 hours)
Learners will be able to:
Explain nurse delegation laws, roles, and responsibilities.
Identify tasks that can and cannot be delegated.
Follow required communication and reporting procedures.
Understand major body systems and how they relate to delegated care.
Additional skills and strategies to support quality caregiving
Nurse Delegation Special Focus on Diabetes (3 hours)
Learners will be able to:
Identify key diabetes terms, symptoms, and types.
Recognize and respond to hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia.
Understand insulin basics, types, dosing, and storage.
Identify methods of insulin delivery and safe needle disposal.
Additional skills and strategies to support quality caregiving.
Intended Audience: Long-term care workers (LTCW), home care aides (HCA), nursing assistants (NAR/NAC) (or anyone that will be getting one of these certifications before accepting delegated tasks)

Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites to enroll in these courses. However, to be delegated and use these certificates in practice, students must be able to perform the physical components of the skills evaluation and must hold an active Home Care Aide (HCA) or Nursing Assistant (NA-C or NA-R) credential. Only individuals with an HCA or NAC credential are eligible to receive nurse-delegated tasks.
