This course is divided into four modules totaling five hours of content. The training provides caregivers with essential knowledge related to nurse delegation, self-directed care, medication assistance, and medications commonly used in dementia care. 


Participants will learn the caregiver’s role and responsibilities when assisting with medications, including understanding delegated versus non-delegated tasks, applying safe medication practices, recognizing side effects, and properly documenting and reporting concerns. 


The course also explores medications commonly used to treat dementia and medications that may cause dementia-like symptoms, helping caregivers support safe and effective medication management in residential and home care settings.


Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify caregiver responsibilities related to self-directed care and nurse delegation.

  2. Distinguish between delegated and non-delegated caregiving tasks.

  3. Explain the caregiver’s role in medication assistance.

  4. Apply the Five Rights of Medication to ensure safe medication practices.

  5. Identify appropriate documentation and reporting responsibilities related to medication assistance.

  6. Recognize common medication side effects and strategies to support client participation and safety.

  7. Identify medications commonly used to treat dementia.

  8. Recognize medications that may cause dementia-like symptoms
