This hands-on, in-person skills lab provides caregivers with the opportunity to practice and demonstrate essential personal care skills in a supportive classroom environment. Conducted over two full days at one of our Washington partner training locations, this course helps learners build confidence and competency through guided instruction, live demonstrations, and supervised practice.
The course covers the core caregiving skills most commonly used in daily care and required for Washington State Home Care Aide training. Learners will practice skills such as handwashing, bathing, denture care, positioning and transfers, catheter care, passive range of motion, compression stockings, shaving, and other foundational caregiving tasks. Instructors provide real-time coaching, feedback, and support throughout the training.
This course is ideal for students who prefer hands-on learning and direct instructor interaction while preparing for the HCA skills examination and real-world caregiving responsibilities. Current training locations include Olympia, Spokane, Vancouver, Mountlake Terrace, and Tri-Cities, Washington.
Learning Objectives:
Demonstrate proper infection control practices, including handwashing and glove use.
Perform personal care skills such as denture care, bathing, shaving, nail care, and perineal care.
Safely assist clients with positioning, mobility, and passive range of motion exercises.
Demonstrate proper techniques for catheter and compression stocking care.
Apply safety, privacy, dignity, and communication principles during caregiving tasks.
Demonstrate competency in the personal care skills required for Washington State HCA training and testing.
