This course provides caregivers with practical knowledge and skills to support the health and integrity of elderly clients’ skin. Learners will explore common age-related skin changes, prevention strategies, proper hygiene techniques, and the connection between skin care and overall health. 


The course also reviews Washington State delegation guidelines related to skin care tasks, helping caregivers remain within their scope of practice while providing safe, compassionate care.


Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify common skin conditions and age-related changes that affect elderly clients and understand their impact on overall health.

  2. Describe effective strategies for managing incontinence while promoting proper skin hygiene and preventing breakdown.

  3. Demonstrate safe and appropriate bathing techniques, including washing, rinsing, and drying, while preserving skin integrity.

  4. Differentiate between skin care tasks that require nurse delegation and those that may be performed independently under Washington State regulations.
