Dementia Level 1 - Live Virtual Class (Retake)

Price:

$118.00

This retake course is for students who previously attended Dementia Level 1 but did not pass the competency exam. The class content is the same as the original course, and students will attend the full live virtual session again. Participation in this retake course provides two additional attempts to pass the Dementia Level 1 competency exam.

In this comprehensive training, caregivers revisit the foundational knowledge needed to support individuals living with dementia and cognitive decline. The course reviews what dementia is—and what it is not—by examining symptoms, common types, and conditions that may mimic dementia, such as UTIs, delirium, or depression. Learners explore how dementia affects the brain and daily functioning, how to respond compassionately to hallucinations and delusions, and how to create supportive environments through positive tone, communication, and person-centered interactions.

The course also reinforces essential dementia-care skills, including trauma-informed care, effective communication strategies, supporting ADLs, working with families, addressing sexuality and intimacy needs, and understanding medications, therapies, and non-pharmacological interventions. Participants will strengthen their ability to respond creatively and safely to challenging behaviors while promoting dignity, independence, and quality of life for those they serve.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Define dementia and distinguish it from similar conditions (depression, delirium, UTIs, MCI, medication effects).

  2. Identify common signs, symptoms, and types of dementia.

  3. Describe how dementia affects different parts of the brain and influences behavior and function.

  4. Recognize common hallucinations and delusions and identify physical, emotional, or environmental causes.

  5. Additional skills and strategies to support quality caregiving.
