Safe mobility is essential for preventing injuries and supporting client independence.
This course teaches caregivers best practices for assisting with movement, transfers, and walking while using proper body mechanics to protect both the caregiver and the client. Learners will practice safe techniques for common mobility tasks, including the use of assistive devices, and explore strategies to reduce fall risks.
The course also covers how to respond appropriately when a client is at risk of falling or has already fallen, ensuring safety, dignity, and timely communication with the care team.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
Use proper body mechanics while performing mobility tasks outlined in the service plan
Demonstrate safe mobility assistance techniques, including the correct use of assistive devices and common care practices
Safely assist a client with walking and ambulation
Safely transfer a client from a bed to a wheelchair
Identify common fall risk factors in the care environment and client condition
Apply strategies to reduce fall risks and promote safe movement
Take appropriate action when assisting a client who is falling or has experienced a fall
Use additional mobility strategies that support safety, independence, and quality caregiving
